Kiba — Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 12, 2026
Kiba (“we”, “us”) is a pet food scanner app that scores pet food against your pet's profile. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and who it goes to.
The short version: we collect only what the app needs to work, we don't sell it, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't build profiles of you.
1. You don't need an account
Kiba signs you in anonymously. We do not ask for — and do not collect — your name, email address, phone number, or a password. There is no login screen.
That anonymous identity exists so that the data you create in the app belongs to you and is not readable by anyone else. It is tied to your app installation.
What this means for you: if you delete and reinstall the app, or switch devices, you may not be able to recover your data, because there is no account to sign back in to.
2. What we store
Information you enter about your pets
Pet name, species (dog or cat), breed, date of birth, weight, whether they are neutered, body condition score, and — if you choose to enter it — health conditions, allergens, medications, medical records, appointment reminders, daily health observations, and a pet photo.
You choose whether to provide any of this. Health information is optional; it exists so the score can reflect your pet's needs.
Information created by using the app
Products you scan, bookmarks, your pantry items and feeding setup, food-transition plans, community votes, points earned, your notification preferences, and the search terms you type in the app.
Device information
If you turn on notifications, we store a push token for your device so we can deliver recall alerts and reminders. You can turn notifications off at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.
Photos you take of labels
If you use the camera to add a product we don't have, the photo of the label is sent to our server and processed by an automated text-recognition service to read the ingredient list. See §4.
Purchases
If you subscribe, the purchase is processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat. We never see your payment card. We receive an anonymous subscriber identifier and your subscription status.
What we do NOT collect
No contacts, no precise location, no advertising identifiers, no browsing history outside the app, no microphone audio, and no photos from your library other than ones you deliberately select for a pet photo or a label scan.
3. Why we store it, and what we don't do with it
We store this information for one reason: to operate the app for you — to compute a score for your pet, keep your pantry and history, and send the alerts you asked for.
We do not:
- sell or rent your information to anyone;
- use it for advertising or share it with advertisers;
- use it to build a marketing profile of you;
- use your pet's health information for any purpose other than producing your scores and the features you use.
Data is stored because the app needs somewhere to keep it, not because we mine it.
4. Who processes data on our behalf
We use a small number of service providers. They process data only to provide their service to us:
| Provider | What it handles |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, anonymous authentication, file storage (pet photos), and server functions. This is where your app data lives. |
| Google (Gemini) | Automated text recognition on label photos you submit, to read the ingredient list. |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Backup text/ingredient parsing when the primary service is unavailable. |
| RevenueCat | Subscription status and receipt validation. |
| Apple | Payment processing and push notification delivery. |
| Expo | Push notification delivery. |
About label photos: a photo you submit for ingredient recognition is sent to the provider above to extract the text. Photograph the label, not people, pets, or anything else you would not want processed.
5. What other people can see
Most of your data is private to you. These features are public by design, and you choose whether to use them:
- Recipes you submit to the community section, including any photo you attach.
- Products you contribute to the catalog, once approved.
- Votes you cast on products, which appear only as anonymous aggregate counts.
- Points and level, if a leaderboard or community surface displays them.
Your pets' names, photos, health information, pantry, and scan history are never shown to other users.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your data while your installation remains active. You can delete individual items — pets, pantry items, bookmarks, journal entries, appointments — from within the app at any time, and deletion removes them from our database.
To request deletion of everything associated with your installation, email support@kibascan.com. We will delete it within 30 days.
7. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with row-level access rules that restrict every record to the installation that created it. No system is perfectly secure, but your data is not readable by other users of the app.
8. Children
Kiba is intended for adults who own pets. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your information, and to object to certain processing.
Because Kiba does not collect identifying information about you, we may not be able to locate your records from an email address alone — we may need identifying details from the app to act on a request. Contact support@kibascan.com.
We do not sell personal information, and we have not done so in the preceding 12 months.
10. This is not veterinary advice
Kiba's scores are informational. They do not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition, and they are not a substitute for a veterinarian. Always consult your veterinarian about your pet's health.
11. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
